INTRODUCTION

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Strike is defined as the employee collective refusal to attend to work at the workplace.  A strike is said to have occurred when the employees of the institution stop their work as a measure to dissuade the management for a bargaining concession in other to receive their demands. Jaschik, Scott ( 2016). The Stoppage of work results in a loss for the institution leading to loss of revenue and increased cost of overhead and fixed expenses. It also leads to loss of profits. Strikes consist of economic strikes and unfair labor practice strikes. An economic strike is concerned with trying to win some economic benefits for employees, such as increase in wages. An unfair labor practice strike is a strike concerned with the violation of a labor relations law by the employer. The increasing level of strikes and lockout and the grave consequences it exacts on the economy calls for concerted efforts to address issues affect the welfare of workers. This occurs when the employees seeks to dissuade the customers from buying the companys product as a threat to compel the management to compromise to their demands on experiencing loss of revenue.

The condition in which the employees of the company collective create public awareness of strike by standing outside of the companys environment in support of the unions position.
